THE ARTIST
"I believe meaning can still be portrayed with beauty in a form that looks happy."
Marjowyn Vito is an artist based in the Philippines known for her distinct art style she calls contrasegmentism.

Contrasegmentism is characterized by the deliberate separation of flat surfaces and textured volumes that are repeated within a composition to create contrasting segments of colors and textures. By fragmenting her figures, the juxtaposition of flat, smooth, and orderly areas and freely created textured volumes gives the artwork a dynamic tension and harmony, inviting the viewer to explore the fragmented yet unified whole.

Marjowyn views painting as her platform to share messages close to her heart such as lifelong learning, kindness, and even key issues of our time including women empowerment, climate change, and peace. The artist believes in the power of the arts to bring about social change.

After first launching her art in London just last July 2023, her works have been quickly gaining traction and recognition for her unique art style. In less than a year since her first exhibition, having participated in numerous shows and art fairs, and representing the Philippines in the Florence Biennale 2025 early in her career, Marjowyn is swiftly establishing herself as among the upcoming artists to watch in her generation. While the intent of her play of colors and textures is to instantly catch the eye, a closer look at her artworks reveals stories worth telling. Marjowyn believes that a meaningful message can still be portrayed with beauty in a form that looks happy.
